A castle standing strong and straight in the middle of a hill of vines is quite the perfect occasion to stop for a lunch or a well-deserved rest. The newly renovated and opened (July 2017) Château de Sacy is quite the spectacular sight from the village road down below. With 12 rooms and two suites, it’s quite a stately addition to the hospitality option in the Champagne region.
The renovation might as well be called a reconstruction as the remains of the Castle were closer to ruins than an actual habitation. It took a whole year, and of course substantial investments to bring the Castle to its prevalent stance. But now, it’s a restful and elegant experience that is offered.
The restaurant logically called “Les vignes†seems at first sight inspired by the very first owners, who were fabric merchants. The décor is filled with luxurious drapes and contrasting noble fabrics along with bright and modern colors. It’s truly a welcoming sight. It has everything it needs to be a great success. It does feel like a new establishment as some novice errors in service, pairings and cooking came to stumble what would’ve been a perfectly lovely lunch. Overcooked fish, overly pickled entrées impossible to pair with any wine along with wrong Champagne temperature and other omissions were surprising mistakes made. It’s quite a shame and I do hope improvement is on the way on that aspect. The potential is gigantic and so close to become an astonishing establishment.
Un château fort et droit au milieu d’une colline de vignes est l’occasion parfaite de s’arrêter pour un déjeuner ou un repos bien mérité. Le Château de Sacy, récemment rénové et ouvert (juillet 2017), offre une vue spectaculaire de la route du village en contrebas. Avec 12 chambres et deux suites, c’est une addition majestueuse à l’option d’hospitalité dans la région de Champagne.
La rénovation pourrait aussi bien s’appeler une reconstruction puisque les restes du château étaient plus proches des ruines qu’une habitation réelle. Il a fallu une année entière, et bien sûr des investissements substantiels pour amener le château à sa position dominante. Mais maintenant, c’est une expérience reposante et élégante qui est offerte.
Le restaurant logiquement appelé “Les vignes” semble à première vue inspiré par les premiers propriétaires, qui étaient des marchands de tissus. Le décor est rempli de rideaux luxueux et de tissus nobles contrastés avec des couleurs vives et modernes. C’est vraiment un spectacle accueillant. Il a tout ce qu’il faut pour être un grand succès. Toutefois, on sent que c’est un nouvel établissement car quelques erreurs de novice dans le service, les accords et la cuisine sont venus trébucher ce qui aurait été un déjeuner parfaitement charmant. Poissons trop cuits, entrées trop marinés impossible à jumeler avec du vin, mauvaise température de Champagne et d’autres omissions étaient des erreurs surprenantes faites. C’est vraiment dommage et j’espère que des améliorations seront apportées à cet aspect. Le potentiel est gigantesque et si proche de devenir un établissement étonnant.
